Masand: 'Tum Milo...' is cold about love Anyone who's spent a lazy afternoon tucking into the delicious sali boti at Britannia or the cherry cream custard at Kyani can appreciate the climatic conflict of Tum Milo Toh Sahi, in which an old-fashioned Irani cafe must be saved from a greedy corporate giant that wants to turn it into one of those homogenized coffee shop franchises.

Had this been the basic premise of director Kabir Sadanand's film instead of its predictable take on contemporary relationships, Tum Milo Toh Sahi might not have turned out the mangled mess that it has.

Dimple Kapadia hams it up as Dilshad, the garrulous Parsi owner of the café, who develops an easy friendship with Nana Patekar's cranky Subramanium who has an almost Norman Bates-like obsession with his dead mother. Sunil Shetty and Vidya Malvade play a constantly bickering married couple Amit and Anita, who clash over his long working hours and their inability to agree on how to raise their son. Finally, Rehan Khan and Anjana Sukhani play young collegians Bikramjit and Shalini, faced with your typical Bollywood cliché -- they must traverse the film's skull-boring song-and-dance routine till they realize they are in love.

Predictably, it's the relationship between the senior characters that is most engaging, thanks to a consistent performance by Nana Patekar, who plays to the gallery with his quirky characterization.

Suniel Shetty delivers the film's most embarrassing performance with his accented dialogue delivery and awkward body language. His garbled words are hard to figure out most of the time, and his over-acting in this film consolidates his position in the hall of shame alongside fellow doorknobs Zayed Khan, Fardeen Khan and Bobby Deol.

To be honest, except for Nana Patekar and to some extent Rehan Khan who pitches in an earnest turn, the entire cast of this film grates with annoying performances and bad accents. Even a child actor who plays Dilshad's Australia-returned grandson deserves some serious neck-wrangling for his mutilation of the English language in the name of an Aussie twang.

If there's anything more infuriating than the acting in this film, it's the distracting background score that qualifies as sheer noise. Raghav Sachar, who famously holds the distinction of playing some 30-odd musical instruments, is credited with composing the background score which sounds like plates and glasses being smashed against walls.

This film is intended as a warm drama about love in a big city, but the script never quite gets around to achieving that. I'm going with one-and-a-half out of five for director Kabir Sadanand's Tum Milo Toh Sahi. Since coffee is used as a metaphor to bring people together in this movie, I suggest you spike yours with a large shot of whiskey to make the pain of watching this a little easier.

BOBBY IS LIVING OUT OF A SUITCASE
TNN, Apr 14, 2010, 12.00am IST

Bobby Deol has just returned from Patiala where he was shooting for two full months for Yamla Pagla Deewana with big brother Sunny Deol and father Dharmendra.

The actor is now leaving for Canada in the next month to shoot for Thank You with Akshay Kumar. When he returns, Bobby will be heading back to Indore to wrap up another schedule of YPD and then he has some personal commitments to finish. What Bobby is really happy about though is that when he is in Canada, his wife Tanya who is best friends with Akshay’s wife Twinkle, will also be there. So this foursome will be able to combine work with pleasure. Something that filmstars love doing.

И так же - для удобства, лучше выделять название новости жирным шрифтом, и убирать всяуие ненужные букаффки, типа "See recent Hindustan Times - Cinema news" или "See full article at Hindustan Times - Cinema »Permalink | Report a problem"

BOBBY DEOL IS A TRUE FRIEND
TNN, Jul 20, 2010, 12.00am IST

Bobby Deol is one of those misfits in the film industry.

He is sweet, sensitive and surreal. And also a true friend. Recently Bobby’s hairstylist Shanno celebrated her birthday at her palatial home in London.

Bobby and his wife Tanya were present at the pool-side barbecue affair, and stayed on long enough to make Shanno feel truly important. Bobby, who is also very generous with his gifts, (ask his other friends they will vouch for him) surprised Shanno with a nice gift.

BOBBY BAGS 'THE ITALIAN JOB'

Days after Katrina chose to walk out of the film, Bobby Deol has joined the cast of Abbas Mustan’s The Italian Job.

As of now, the cast includes Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Omi Vaidya. Incidentally, this will be Bobby’s fifth film with Abbas-Mustan after Soldier, Ajnabee, Humraaz and Naqaab.

When contacted, Mustan of Abbas-Mustan said, “Yes Bobby plays one of the most integral parts. In the film, Abhishek plays Charlie who forms a team of five people and Bobby is one of the lead characters.

He plays an illusionist and that’s why Abhishek’s character is keen to have him in his team.” Apparently, Abbas-Mustan’s Bollywood remake is very different from the 2003 original. Mustan adds, “We don’t want to reveal much but this film is one of the most challenging scripts for us as well as for Bobby.”

BOBBY DEOL’S SECRET PHOBIAS
Mumbai, August 12, 2010

His supernatural thriller, Help, is opening in theatres this Friday, August 13. And naturally, we’d like to know if Bobby Deol believes in ghosts. "Well, I haven’t met any yet," he chuckles, "but even the thought of believeing in them creeps me out despite the fact that my parents always told us koi bhoot woot nahin hai (there are no ghosts)."

He recalls shooting portions of the film in an old world French colonial bungalow in Mauritius with an eerie feel to it. "I don’t get scared easily, but the notion that something out-of-the-ordinary was going to happen in this house sent shivers down my spine," he admits. "I’d say the location worked for the film."

This is Bobby’s first brush with on-screen terror. He says that ever since he saw films like the Argentinian Import, 36 Pasos (2006), and Alejandro Amenabar’s 2001 Nicole Kidman starrer, The Others, he has wanted to experience real-life jitters too.

Older and wiser
"As a child, after seeing Jaws (1975), I refused to get into the swimming pool for a long time because I was afraid there was a shark there waiting to attack me. But I’m older and wiser now. As an actor, I want to experiment with different genres. When Rajeev (debutant director Rajeev Virani) came to me with this story, I thought, "Why not?" says Deol.

So when was the last time he screamed for help? "I guess when I was in school, in a bad dream. Or may be in my pleas to God to help me pass my exams," he laughs.

Does he ever ask for God’s help to pass the box-office exam too? "I’m still trying to figure out what works at the box-office, it’s such a mystery. That’s why I’m sitting it out now, picking and choosing my roles carefully," he reasons. "There’s "Yamla Pagla Deewana" with dad (Dharmendra) and bhaiyya (Sunny Deol), Abbas-Mastan’s remake of "The Italian Job" and Anees Bazmee’s Thank You."

But isn’t "Thank You" a special appearance? "Says who?" he retorts. "Don’t believe everything you read. It’s a full-fledged role for which I’m presently shooting in Canada."

Help has two little girls, identical twins, adding to the fear factor. Since Bobby has two young sons too, Aryaman and Dharam, we wonder what they are afraid of ?

"Darkness. Isn’t that every child’s biggest phobia ? I used to be petrified of waking up in the middle of the night and would insist on leaving the light on all night," he says with a sheepish smile. "Since my sons make no such demand, I guess, they are not as darpok (fearful) as I was.".

David Dhawan may direct remake of ‘Chupke Chupke’
by tarannum khan - January 17, 2011

According to latest tabloid news, the 1975s best-seller comedy flick ‘Chupke Chupke’ starring Big B, Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore in the lead a role is soon going to hit the silver screen again, with an all new look and new stars.

Apparently, the Hrishikesh Mukherji’s ‘Chupke Chupke’ which was a remake of the Bengali hit ‘Chhadmabeshi’, will now be remade for the Gen next, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bobby Deol in the lead roles, which was played by there fathers in the original.

It’s also learned that the film will be directed by the prominent filmmaker David Dhawan and will be produced by Sohail Maklai and Vishvaas Paandya of White Stripes.

A source said, “Paandya had the rights of the film for some time. Now, he has joined hands with Sohail Maklai in making this film.

Maklai has roped in writer Rumy Jaffrey, who is currently finalising the script while casting is under way.

The wish list is to have these actors on board. It is a classic film and most filmmakers would dare not go on that path but enough measures are being taken to make a unique film yet again.”

Big B in the remake as well
According to the scuttlebutt, the mega star Amitabh Bachchan who had starred along with his wife Jaya Bachchan in the original motion picture, has also been approached by the filmmakers to star in the remake.

When asked about the remake, the producer Sohail Maklai said, “Yes we are remaking the film along with White Stripes. Rumi Jaffrey is writing it and David Dhawan will direct it. However, no one in the cast has been finalised and we will approach them once the script is ready.”

Director David Dhawan said, “Yes, the film has been offered to me and I am considering it.

Deol trio to be back with action
Sonal Chawla, Mumbai Mirror, Mar 28, 2011

After giving box office hits with a 2007 drama, Apne, and a romantic comedy this year, Yamla Pagla Deewana, it was only sensible for Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol to hit the ground running with the genre they are best known for action, in Anil Sharma's 3D film Masters.

To be shot in the Sin City, Las Vegas, the film will be produced by Sunil Khosla of Boutique Cinema Pvt Ltd., and will have some breathtaking stunts. They are planning to fly down Hollywood action directors for the stunts.

A source said, "All the three Deols are known for their action. After Apne and YPD, the trio will come together in a 3D action film for the first time.

Director Anil Sharma is in the scripting stage and is concentrating on the action sequences more."

Anil Sharma, who directed the trio in Apne, got Masters as a package deal with the three Deols. Producer Sunil said, "We have officially signed Sunny Deol on paper and are now figuring out the dates with Dharamji and Bobby. It is a package deal with Anil Sharma. Masters is an all out action film, to be shot lavishly in Vegas. We plan to appoint top Hollywood action directors for the film."

To keep the Deols company, there will be a foreign actress too. Sunil adds, "All the three Deols are perfectly suited for an action film. When the idea cropped up, I couldn't think of anyone other than Dharamji, Sunny and Bobby.

We are considering casting a foreign actress and we are also in talks with several Bollywood actresses, out of which one will be chosen for our film." If this too is a hit, then it will be their hat-trick.
