Abhay Deol is all set to play a stylish and suave thief in UTV's Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye. Interestingly, his uncle Dharmendra also played a similar character in Shalimar. Director Dibakar Banerjee of Khosla Ka Ghosla fame went up to Dharmendra to get details about his character in Shalimar to incorporate it in Abhay's film.
Ram Mirchandani, vice president UTV Motion Pictures says, "Abhay's character in the film is that of a cunning thief. That's why Dibakar thought of getting minute details of Dharmendra's charcter in Shalimar. Dharamji explained to him the fine nuances and situations and even gave him ideas of how Abahy should dress in Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye." What needs to be seen is how well will Abhay manage to step into his talented uncle's shoes.

Abhay sloshed at Anurag’s party
2 Apr 2008, 0000 hrs IST,TNN
Anurag Kashyap has embarked on his next project — contemporary Devdas, stylishly titled Dev.D!
And playing the title role in this one is our dear Abhay Deol, whose Bollywood local hasn’t taken off with as much speed as it was expected to. Anyway, Abhay was to be drunk and look wrecked for a scene in the film.
For this, Kashyap decided to throw a small bash, where the cast and crew would do some binge drinking, and the suave and sophisticated Abhay would manage to look knocked out with a heavy hangover — something that would be perfect for the scene.
So after getting him a little drunk, Kashyap chatted with his actor all night, so that he doesn’t get enough sleep and would look apt for his scene the next day.
Says Anurag, “The party and drinking bit was my idea, the staying awake was Abhay’s. It was all worth it. The scene is perfect!” Let's hope Abhay’s gaadi takes off now at least

Paresh Rawal plays a triple role in Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye
By Bollywood Hungama News Network, April 5, 2008 - 12:00 IST
After garnering huge acclaims for Khosla Ka Ghosla, director Dibakar Banerjee is all set with his next venture titled Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye. The film has Abhay Deol, Archana Puran Singh, Neetu Chandra and a newcomer Richa Chadha with Paresh Rawal playing a triple role.
Highlighting the kind of research Banerjee has done for the film, he says, "Unlike, Khosla Ka Ghosla which was for middle class, this film demanded me to know the mind of criminals, their relationship with elites, police and other criminals and the way police treats them."
Without revealing much about the character of Paresh Rawal in the film, Banerjee says, "Paresh Rawal is doing a triple role with the two characters namely Dr. Brijkishore Handa and Googie Arror and third name if taken will give out the entire storyline of the film which I don't want to do. But he is doing something which he has never done before." And what does Abhay do in the film? "Abhay plays an extremely handsome, charismatic and very talented thief leading a luxurious life. Someone who is very stylish and has lots of girlfriends and is usually spotted in five stars hotels," states Banerjee.
Talking about the costumes chosen for different characters in the film he informs, "Since, my film is set in Delhi; we would go out on the streets of Delhi to study various characters because I am very particular about the kind of reality I depict in the film. Like the kind of research done was very crucial in the case of Paresh Rawal's different characters in the film. He further adds, "Even in the case of Abhay's costumes which are very well designed as he starts a normal thief and then later climbs up the status graph and becomes a very rich and well known crook."
The release date of the film will be finalized after its completion by the end of August. Banerjee's next, post Oye Lucky, Lucky Oyewill be a thriller based in Calcutta, which is expected to go on floors next year.
Just read an article on IndiaFM.com that Dibakar Banerjee, Director of the critically acclaimed, immensely likeable film “Khosla Ka Ghosla” has finally announced his next film.
Titled “Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye” (kickass title IMHO) the film stars the talented Mr. Abhay Deol as a thief who, as per Banerjee himself, “starts a normal thief and then later climbs up the status graph and becomes a very rich and well known crook.”
The film also co-stars Neetu Chandra (of Traffic Signal… we’ll conviently forget that Garam Masala was infact her debut film) and, what seems to be the ace up Banerjee’s sleeve, Paresh Rawal in an interesting Triple Role.
If Anupam Kher, Ranvir Shoery, Parvid Dabas, Navin Nischol and even Tara Sharma put in some stellar performances, one looks forward to even more from “Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye” (which I’m guessing will be referred to as OLLO.. not quite as cool is it?).
What’s most encouraging though is that the director is decidely sticking to what I firmly believe to be the secrets to his success: research and attention to detail. As noted in the article, Banerjee states, “Since, my film is set in Delhi; we would go out on the streets of Delhi to study various characters because I am very particular about the kind of reality I depict in the film.”
Coming from any other Director that statement may not have held much validity. But after multiple viewings of “Khosla Ka Ghosla” (each almost more enjoyable than the last), this is a cause for excitement. KKG was such a great film largely in part due to the realistic ambiance: One feels Delhi all around them when watching the film. It’ll be nice to experience it again, likely from an altogether different perspective, from “Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye”.
Here’s wishing Dibakar Banerjee the best of luck for his upcoming feature, which hopefully will hit the big screens by the end of this year (should be complete by the end of August). I for one can’t wait.

Lucky Oye! - на 10 октября.. Поглядим, в этом смысле он тоже отличается от все Деолов?
Vidya Malvade, Shilpa Shukla join Abhay Deol in JUNCTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 9, 2007 1:40:28 PM IST
Guess who is having the most fun with CHAK DE girls currently?
It is Abhay Deol who would have the two females, Vidya Malvade and Shilpa Shukla a.k.a Bindiya Naik from CHAK DE INDIA, for company in his next film JUNCTION.
JUNCTION stars Shilpa in the role of a suicidal alcoholic, which is in complete contrast to the headstrong character that she portrayed in CHAK DE INDIA. This is the first film which brings the two actresses together again after Shimit Amin directed blockbuster which is still in the process of making records.
